Tenth Annual Werks Reunion Monterey—Celebrating a Decade of Porsche Passion
- Images by Shawn Glad
The Tenth Annual Werks Reunion Monterey was held on August 16, 2024, at the beautiful Monterey Pines Golf Course. Created by the Porsche Club of America, this event was a celebration of the Porsche brand and the community of enthusiasts who share a passion for these iconic cars. Nearly 750 cars, including those in the corral and judged sections, filled the venue, making it one of the largest gatherings yet. The judging kept the event enthusiast-oriented, ranking cars based on attributes and ensuring a relaxed, enjoyable experience for everyone. This year, the spotlight was on a Porsche legend—the 1973 and 1974 Ducktail Carrera.
Werks Reunion has always been one of my favorite events during Monterey Car Week, offering a stunning variety of cars—from early Gmünd 356s to the latest factory race cars, with custom builds from brands like Gunther Werks, Rod Emory, and Singer, among others. The sheer number of cars felt overwhelming for a photographer like me, with so many opportunities begging to be captured.
This year, I focused my photography on Porsches in yellow and green—a nod to my Oregon roots and the University of Oregon’s colors.
This year, I decided to change things up a bit. With the Ducktail Carrera as the featured model, and as a proud University of Oregon alumnus (Go Ducks!), I thought it would be fun to focus my photography on Porsches in yellow and green. I started with the Ducktail Carreras (of course), which was a fitting start for the occasion.
Below are some of my favorite photos from the day, all centered around the yellow and green theme that connects to my Oregon roots. Among the highlights were the obligatory Ducktail Carreras, some beautiful 911 tribute race cars that competed in the International Race of Champions (IROC) series, as well as several modern Porsches that really stood out.
I hope you enjoy these images as much as I enjoyed capturing them. Perhaps next year, I’ll choose a different color to focus on—what would you pick?
Cheers!
Model: 911 Carrera
Year: 1974
Color: Light Yellow
* Number 473 of 528 cars produced for the US market. This 1974 Carrera was a Craigslist find out of Oregon. I am the 2nd owner purchasing from the original family after it sat in a leaking shed for many years. Finished in its light yellow paint with midnight interior, it took me over two years to restore this car—doing most of the work myself. Great effort was taken to use as many of the original parts or NOS.

* Originally, a POC/SCR-class race car built from a 1984 Carrera chassis, this car was reconfigured to replicate the original IROC-RSR that I owned and raced for seven years. Originally white and purchased in as-raced condition in March of 2022, this car was painstakingly stripped down to a bare tub and rebuilt over the course of a year and a half to exactly match the IROC spec race cars down to minute detail.

* For us the 996 GT3 was the perfect blend of the analog driving experience and modern-day comfort and reliability. This car has been updated with a lightweight Flywheel, 997 RS clutch, Numeric shifter, Numeric cables, semi-solid transmission and motor mounts. These modifications make it a blast to take on a spirited drive through the mountains or a day at the track but it remains compliant enough to take on a weekend road trip.

* We purchased the 1978 930 “Widow Maker” back 1998 but looking completely different to what she does today. The former owner converted her to look like a 964. And had it painted black. On several different occasions, I considered selling her. In 2022 while doing some tinkering, I discovered that her original color was Lt Green after all these years which triggered me to do more research. So, I ordered an Authenticity Report. Report showing original color was “Light Metallic Green (code 275) with Cork interior (code 88 So we had a full restoration by Olsen Motorsports

Model: 911 GT3 MR
Year: 2022
Color: Jade Green
* I was captivated by the Jade Green color when I saw it on a 914 resto-mod at the Werks Reunion in 2021. I knew this was the vibrant 70’s color that I wanted to bring back on this modern 2022 GT3 as my PTS color choice. In June ’23, I added a full Manthey Racing performance kit to the car as soon as it was available in the US, and complemented it with a Sharkwerks exhaust for the extra roar. This car is being enjoyed to its fullest on local tracks and spirited drives with the local Porsche community.
