We Are Porsche—The Dreamers, The Drivers, and The Legends

If you're into Porsches—or just have a thing for iconic cars—you might have caught the "We Are Porsche" exhibit at the Petersen Automotive Museum. Running from April 2023 through July 2024, the show was an incredible journey through 75 years of Porsche history. The exhibit didn't just feature the cars; it told the stories of the people—the architects, dreamers, drivers, and fans—who've shaped what Porsche is today. I finally got around to sifting through the photos from two separate visits, and as we wrap up the year, I wanted to look back and share some of them.

Luftgekühlt 10—The Backlot Sequel

For those in the Porsche community—enthusiasts, racers, and photographers alike—Luftgekühlt is the must-attend cultural event in Southern California each year. It's been on my bucket list for ages, but time, family commitments, and the aftermath of Monterey Car Week earlier in the season always seemed to get in the way. This year, though, I finally made the journey down from Oregon to fully dive into the Luft experience.

Luftgekühlt 10 Pre-Show—Sunset Views and Porsche Vibes at the Petersen

Luftgekühlt 10 kicked off in true LA style on the evening before the main event at the Universal Studios Backlot, set against the skyline on the rooftop of the Petersen Automotive Museum. The scene was a perfect blend of classic air-cooled Porsches and a few modern additions, all framed by a Los Angeles sunset. It was the ideal spot to catch up with friends, swap stories, and talk shop with other Porsche fans.

A ‘Tooned’ 1959 Porsche RSK Spyder

This drawing captures a side view of the 1959 Porsche 718 RSK Spyder—specifically, chassis No. 718-028. This one’s got a rich history, starting with its first owner, Christian Goethals from Belgium. Goethals took it to the track for a season and managed to snag first place at the 1959 Leopoldville Grand Prix in what’s now the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Not a bad way to break it in!

2024 Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance—Historic Cars & Scenic Drives

The Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance, held on Thursday, August 15, 2024, is one of the most anticipated events of Monterey Car Week. This year’s Tour was particularly special because it included the 1934 Bugatti Type 59 Sports, which went on to win Best in Show at Sunday’s Concours d’Elegance. Remarkably, this car is unrestored and original—the first time a preservation car has won the Concours. Witnessing it glide along the coastline, with the ocean as its backdrop, was truly unforgettable and a highlight of the Tour.

Get Ready for the Third Annual Corkscrew Hillclimb 2024

Rising from the shadow of the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, part of the broader Car Week festivities that happen each August in Monterey, California, another event has emerged: the Corkscrew Hillclimb and Community Day at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. This event, now in its third year, takes advantage of the raceway's iconic corkscrew turn. What is Shotgun Racer?

The name, Shotgun Racer, draws inspiration from the term ‘riding shotgun,’ which originated in the American Wild West. This term referred to the person sitting in the front passenger seat of a stagecoach or wagon, armed with a shotgun. Over time, it has evolved to symbolize sitting in the front passenger seat of any vehicle. It reflects our desire to get closer to the action, diving into the world of motorsports, exploring cars, drivers, and their shared history.
