For those in the Porsche community—enthusiasts, racers, and photographers alike—Luftgekühlt is the must-attend cultural event in Southern California each year. It's been on my bucket list for ages, but time, family commitments, and the aftermath of Monterey Car Week earlier in the season always seemed to get in the way. This year, though, I finally made the journey down from Oregon to fully dive into the Luft experience.

Luftgekühlt 10 kicked off in true LA style on the evening before the main event at the Universal Studios Backlot, set against the skyline on the rooftop of the Petersen Automotive Museum. The scene was a perfect blend of classic air-cooled Porsches and a few modern additions, all framed by a Los Angeles sunset. It was the ideal spot to catch up with friends, swap stories, and talk shop with other Porsche fans.

The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, held on Sunday, August 18, 2024, is one of the most prestigious car shows in the world, featuring not only judged classics but also stunning displays of iconic cars and special exhibits. This year’s event brought together 214 vehicles from 16 countries and 29 U.S. states, transforming the picturesque 18th fairway of Pebble Beach Golf Links into a showcase of speed, style, and design innovation. The 2024 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, held at the iconic WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca from August 14-17, was another exhilarating four days of motorsports history. This year marked a significant milestone, as Laguna Seca commemorated its 50th anniversary of historic racing, continuing its tradition of showcasing the finest examples of race cars from across the decades. The event remains one of the cornerstone highlights of Monterey Car Week, standing proudly alongside other prestigious gatherings such as the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance, and The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering.

The Tenth Annual Werks Reunion Monterey was held on August 16, 2024, at the beautiful Monterey Pines Golf Course. The Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance, held on Thursday, August 15, 2024, is one of the most anticipated events of Monterey Car Week. This year’s Tour was particularly special because it included the 1934 Bugatti Type 59 Sports, which went on to win Best in Show at Sunday’s Concours d’Elegance. Remarkably, this car is unrestored and original—the first time a preservation car has won the Concours. Witnessing it glide along the coastline, with the ocean as its backdrop, was truly unforgettable and a highlight of the Tour.

Rising from the shadow of the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, part of the broader Car Week festivities that happen each August in Monterey, California, another event has emerged: the Corkscrew Hillclimb and Community Day at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. This event, now in its third year, takes advantage of the raceway's iconic corkscrew turn. By flipping the course and running it backwards, this event adds an innovative twist to traditional hillclimb challenges, making it a must-see event for motorsport fans.
