We Are Porsche—The Dreamers, The Drivers, and The Legends

If you're into Porsches—or just have a thing for iconic cars—you might have caught the "We Are Porsche" exhibit at the Petersen Automotive Museum. Running from April 2023 through July 2024, the show was an incredible journey through 75 years of Porsche history. The exhibit didn't just feature the cars; it told the stories of the people—the architects, dreamers, drivers, and fans—who've shaped what Porsche is today. I finally got around to sifting through the photos from two separate visits, and as we wrap up the year, I wanted to look back and share some of them.

Moto Talbott Collection in Carmel Valley

Located in Carmel Valley, California, the Moto Talbott Collection showcases an impressive array of motorcycles owned by Robb Talbott. This collection is housed in a single-story building with an adjacent workshop for maintenance. Beneath this building lies a spacious basement, effectively doubling the collection's size. Visitors often find themselves pleasantly surprised to discover the extensive lower floor, so it’s wise to plan for a longer visit to take in the full array of bikes.

Splendor & Speed—Treasures of the Petersen Collection

I recently visited the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, which is displaying a notable exhibit of significant and rare automobiles from its permanent collection, spanning from the Brass Era to modern times. The exhibit, Splendor & Speed, is located in the Bruce Meyer Family Gallery and is scheduled to run through October 6th of this year.

Seeing Red—70 Years of Ferrari at the Petersen

The latest exhibit in the Bruce Meyer Family Gallery at the Petersen Automotive Museum celebrates the 70th anniversary of Ferrari, titled "Seeing Red." Maintaining a theme centered on a single color—red, naturally—the gallery showcases eleven of the most significant road and race cars from the Prancing Horse over the last seven decades. Among these cars that showcase Ferrari's evolution in design, engineering, and performance are one of the 39 built 1963 Ferrari 250 GTOs—a total stunner, a 1955 Ferrari 857 Sport—a rare finned variant, and a 1965 Ferrari 250 LM that won overall at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Precious Metal at the Petersen Automotive Museum

In the heart of Los Angeles, within the Bruce Meyer Family Gallery, the Petersen Automotive Museum has assembled an all-silver collection of rare and exceptional automobiles, appropriately titled “Precious Metal.” The gallery showcased cars on loan from esteemed collections such as those of Bruce Meyer, The Nethercutt Collection, and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum, to name just a few. In terms of value, the collection had an estimated worth of $200 million, with the 1954 Mercedes W196, valued at half the exhibit's total.

What is Shotgun Racer?

The name, Shotgun Racer, draws inspiration from the term ‘riding shotgun,’ which originated in the American Wild West. This term referred to the person sitting in the front passenger seat of a stagecoach or wagon, armed with a shotgun. Over time, it has evolved to symbolize sitting in the front passenger seat of any vehicle. It reflects our desire to get closer to the action, diving into the world of motorsports, exploring cars, drivers, and their shared history.
